What foods are low in phosphorus?
The foods you eat contain nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals. Phosphorus is a nutrient. Your body needs the right amount to stay healthy and work as it should. You can use the list below to help you make choices about which foods to eat.
Here are some foods that are low in phosphorus. These foods have less than 50 mg per serving.
Fruits
- Most types of fruit, 1 piece or ½ cup (125 mL)
Vegetables
- Most types of vegetables, 1/2 cup (125 mL)
Grains
- Bread (white), 1 slice
- Cream of wheat, ¾ cup (175 mL)
- Popcorn (air-popped), 1 cup (250 mL)
- Pretzels, 10 sticks
- Rice (white), ½ cup (125 mL)
Beverages
- Coffee (brewed), 250 mL (8 fl oz)
- Fruit juices, ½ cup (125 mL)
- Ginger ale or lemon-lime soda pop, 250 mL (8 oz)
- Tea (brewed), 250 mL (8 fl oz)
Work with your doctor or dietitian to find out how much of this nutrient you need. Depending on your health, you may need more or less of it in your diet.
