Warning

Rarely, serious medical problems can occur when this medication is used to end a pregnancy, including serious infections and bleeding. You must see a health care professional within 7 to 14 days after taking mifepristone. The health care professional will check if your pregnancy has completely ended. If your pregnancy has not ended, or if there are serious medical problems, you may need surgery. If the medication fails and the pregnancy continues until birth, there is a risk of birth defects.

You may have a very serious infection even if you do not have a fever. Get medical help right away if you have abdominal pain or feel sick (such as having nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness) more than 24 hours after taking the second drug (misoprostol), even if you do not have a fever. Also get medical help right away if you have heavy bleeding that doesn't stop, which may be a sign your pregnancy has not ended or other serious medical problem.

If you do not want to get pregnant after ending your pregnancy, you must start using birth control right away. Tell your health care professional if you want to get pregnant again right taking this medication. To decrease the chance of birth defects, avoid getting pregnant again before your next menstrual period.
