An important part of your recovery is preventing stiffness and loss of movement in the limb. It is best to start early, because it is a lot of work to get your range of motion back after you have lost it.
Your therapist will show you what position to put your limb in and give you exercises to help prevent stiffness and loss of movement. It is safe and helpful to gently move your limb and bend and straighten the joints on your remaining leg, even right after surgery.
