MyHealth Records protects the databases that store your health information, but you're responsible for protecting your information when using a computer or mobile device.
Tips to help keep your information private:
If you use the Google Chrome browser it has an option to "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is not running." For security reasons you should disable this feature. If you're logged in to MyHealth Records and forget to sign out, someone else may be able to get into your MyHealth Records account if they start using the same computer.
To disable this feature:
Always sign out of your MyHealth Records account when you're finished, before closing your browser, including your mobile device.
MyHealth Records is a secure account and you are the only one who has access to it. Be sure to keep your user name and password secure.
You should only share information from your health record with people you trust. It is your decision whether to share information from your health records. You should not feel coerced when making this decision. If you believe you are being inappropriately pressured to share your information, please contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner to discuss your concerns.
Your health records are protected under the Health Information Act. In accordance with this legislation, Alberta Health has technical safeguards, policies and processes in place to keep your information safe and secure. Your information will not be disclosed for activities such as research, or new features, without your consent.
