The staff in the ICU will do all they can to keep you informed about what treatment is being given and why. If you want to help with anything, like washing your loved ones face, or moving their arms or legs, talk to the staff and they’ll show you what you can do to help.
As a family member you are welcome to take part in patient care rounds that happen every day. This is when the whole healthcare team looking after your loved one discusses:
- treatments
- what progress is being made
- the plan for the day
Staff will talk to you and your loved one about treatment options as they come up. If there’s anything you don’t understand or want to know more about, ask them.
If you have comments or concerns about the care you or your family is getting, talk with your nurse, the Charge Nurse, or the Unit Manager. They’ll do all they can to help answer your questions or look into your concerns for you.
If you still have concerns or don’t feel like you can talk to the staff on the unit you can contact the patient relations department.
