There are many websites with great information about this type of care in Alberta, we have brought it all together into one site, with an Alberta focus, just for you. We understand the challenges you may be facing so wanted to make it easy for you to find the palliative and end-of-life care services, resources and information you need—and that you can trust—all in one place.
What we offer
MyHealth.Alberta/palliative-care is for Albertans — people who need care, families, clinicians, and care providers. The information has an Alberta focus and is designed to be easy to understand and simple to find. Here we offer:

- links to organizations, groups, and services in Alberta that provide palliative and end of life care
- real-life stories from patients, families, and health care providers
- information for caregivers that’s been approved by Albertan experts

New programs
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is working with home clinicians, doctors, and families to help palliative and end of life care patients get emergency care at home. This new initiative —
the EMS Palliative and End-of-Life Care Assess, Treat, and Refer (EMS PEOLC ATR) program — helps people receive high quality of care while staying in their homes if that’s their wish. EMS PEOLC ATR is currently in its third phase and working to expand to the pediatric population.
AHS is pleased to announce that the provincial Guideline for Patient’s Death in the Home Setting has been developed and implemented. The provincial Guideline outlines a standard approach and practice for health care providers that leads to improved quality of care for patients and families during an already difficult time. In addition, A Before and After an Expected Death in the Home brochure has been developed that has information for families of Home Care patients in a private home or seniors’ lodge.
In 2018/2019 a Provincial Rural Palliative and End-of-Life Care In-Home Funding Program is being developed and implemented. Leveraging off of the existing AHS Calgary Zone Rural Palliative Care In-Home Funding Program this program will support patients with palliative conditions, living in rural areas, to stay within their home and communities. In collaboration with patients and their families, the rural palliative and home care teams identify, and authorize the amount and level of additional care that is needed beyond existing home care services.
